As you all know, I love to travel. I haven't been in the air since August 2012, and it was killing me. I treat my birthday as a personal holiday every year, so why not incorporate travel too? I chose Chicago because I've never been there before. It's one of those "big" U.S. cities that I felt I had to see. I met up with a few friends there who I knew from Atlanta; plus, a couple of college friends drove in from nearby Michigan to hang out! One of my younger sisters joined me on the trip - she flew out a day after I did - and that was pretty freaking awesome. She travels a lot for work, so I'm glad we got to spend some time together.
We used public transit A LOT, which was such a nice and refreshing change of pace from Atlanta. Our city's public transit system pales in comparison to Chicago's. So, we walked a lot and saw a lot of tourist sites. When I first visit a city, I really do want to be a tourist. Depending on how much time I have to spend, I'd much rather get those highlights squared away. If I have more time, then I can explore at a slower pace and delve into the hole-in-the-wall places. I have to say, I was so glad to have a smartphone on this trip. Without it, I probably would have walked twice as much as I did, just getting lost and trying to get un-lost!
Typically, I post about each day of travel so you've been warned!
